Introduction

We offer unique and high-quality childcare for children aged two to five years. Our ethos is to use nature and nurture to help children develop. Our Ofsted registered nursery is set in the beautiful grounds of Wandsworth common. Here at Fledglings we follow the core Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum EYFS, alongside offering play and exploration through our Forest School programme.

Forest School sessions will offer children regular opportunities to undertake hands -on learning experiences in our local Woodland/garden areas, which provides the perfect space and environment for them to explore and discover. Through our sessions, children are able to develop a lifelong love and understanding of the natural environment whilst developing the core skills of the Forest School ethos, namely development of self-esteem, creativity and confidence and the ability to assess risk and make their own decisions.

The philosophy which underpins the Forest School movement is to encourage and inspire children through mastery of small, achievable tasks in a Woodland environment to help them grow in confidence and independence and develop a sense of self-worth. Children acquire new skills as they are ready for them, so that activities maintain a degree of challenge and excitement whilst remaining safe and controlled. Children associate natural outdoor settings with freedom, which encourages unrestricted play and often means that children are less inhibited and more likely to join in with activities and engage with others

The Team

We will run Forest School sessions throughout the week, all children will have the opportunity to attend these sessions and they will be led by Level 3 Forest School Leaders and volunteers.

The Schedule

Regular weekly sessions will offer the children the opportunity to:

Develop positive self-esteem, increase their personal awareness and awareness of those around them, build social and emotional skills, have opportunities to improve their problem-solving and communication skills and more importantly have fun in the natural environment.

The Outdoors

Forest school sessions will happen in all weathers. children should wear long sleeved tops and trousers and suitable enclosed shoes.  In the winter they should be wrapped up for cold and wet and we will provide waterproofs.

Our son Conrad (4) went to Fledglings who kindly provided temporary childcare during lockdown. The staff and the facilities are amazing; he did not want to leave at the end of day! He is now really looking forward to the Easter camp!

Please can you add this to our web site My daughter attended Fledglings for about a month during lockdown and distance learning and we absolutely loved it. The staff is so attentive and caring; my daughter quickly grew to love them. The flexibility in scheduling was an added bonus as our schedule varied somewhat each week. We are appreciative that Fledglings was able to accommodate this. The outdoor space is fantastic and is also used as part of a forest school curriculum to incorporate nature into the students’ learning. Activities provided span the learning spectrum and included art, reading, physical activity, etc. She loves the school so much that she didn’t want to go back to her primary school when it reopened! We are looking forward to remaining part of the Fledglings family through holiday camps.
